Teeth Straightening With Invisalign®

When being worn, Invisalign© aligners are virtually invincible. This provides orthodontic treatment that does not negatively affect the appearance of the patient's smile.

Such discreet orthodontic treatments are helpful, as issues of appearance have prevented many who need orthodontic treatments from getting alignment problems fixed. This sometimes leads to the development of gum disease and tooth decay because it is harder to properly clean poorly aligned teeth. Thanks to Invisalign©, anyone can now get teeth straightened without compromising appearance.

What goes on during Invisalign© treatment

A patient's journey usually starts with a consultation with a dentist. This appointment can involve lots of questions about medical and dental history as the dentist evaluates if Invisalign© is the right fit.

Next, the dentist will take a digital image of the patient's teeth. The image is projected to a screen and it is used to predict how the patient's teeth should move over the course of the treatment. Once the dentist is satisfied with the predictions, the data will be sent to a lab where the oral appliances are made.

During the next appointment, the dentist will insert the first set of aligner trays and show the patient how to insert and remove the devices. The patient will be given several other aligner trays to use as the treatment progresses.

The way Invisalign© works, each tray is only worn for about two weeks. It is then switched with another tray that moves the patient's teeth closer to the target position. In order to get the most out of the treatment, patients are advised to wear the aligners for at least 20 hours each day. Not wearing them as directed diminishes the results of the treatment.

The total length of treatment is determined based on how severe the patient's orthodontic issues are. It can be as little as 10 weeks or as much as a few years.

Varieties of Invisalign©

There are a number of different type of Invisalign© aligners:

  • Invisalign© Full: These are the most common variety of Invisalign© trays and can be used to treat a wide range of issues.
  • Invisalign© Teen: These are made specifically for teenagers. They come with useful features for parents, such as indicators to show when a teen is not wearing the aligners as recommended.
  • Invisalign© Lite: These are best for minor to moderate alignment problems. Treatment times with these can be as little as three months.
  • Invisalign© i7: These trays are used to address minor orthodontic problems.

Benefits of Invisalign©

Treatment with Invisalign© aligners has many benefits. It is more discreet than other orthodontic practices, and often more comfortable for patients. The trays can easily be removed for eating and brushing, and because they are plastic, not metal, there are no wires to potentially irritate soft tissues in the mouth.

Transform a smile with Invisalign©

If you are looking to improve the appearance of teeth by having them straightened, Invisalign© is one option to consider. You get needed treatment without having to compromise your smile with brackets and wires.
